Nuplex Industries

Content

It’s a long standing listing on the NZX and a true Kiwi success story, but operating in the resins, chemicals and waste areas calls for a strong corporate reputation programme and experienced issues management. Network PR provides the steady hand, strategic counsel and tactical advice needed to assist Nuplex protect its business operations.

OUR ROLE

Network PR assists Nuplex with financial communications and special projects. Given the environmentally sensitive nature of its business, we also provide expert issues management advice on an on-call basis.

SNAPSHOT

Network PR assisted Nuplex in communicating a partial shut-down of its East Tamaki site following an Environment Court ruling. The key challenge was to mitigate negative coverage resulting from a surprise attack on the company’s fire procedures in a major daily newspaper.

Network PR immediately prepared a media statement in consultation with the company’s Managing Director, clarifying the facts and putting forward the company’s position. We attended Environment Court hearings to monitor the situation, prepared communications to shareholders and the media, and quickly established working relationships with critical players such as council representatives, site managers and lawyers. The company responded to the Court ruling by bringing forward the installation of new state of the art fire equipment, which Network PR communicated to media.
Initial negative media coverage was turned around by ensuring key journalists had the facts and were including the company’s perspective in their stories. The company was also positioned as responding quickly, transparently and decisively, and seen to be taking its environmental responsibilities very seriously.

In short, Network PR played a lead role in turning a negative situation into a proactive opportunity showing Nuplex to be a responsible corporate citizen and preventing the situation from spiralling out of control.
